A hairbrush is the brush you pull through the hair on your head to smooth it, take out knots, and help it lie the way you want. It has a handle and a head full of bristles or pins — not teeth in a row. That last point matters, though actually a lot of people point at a hairbrush and say “comb,” and the other way round too. A comb is the thin thing with teeth; a hairbrush is the bristly one. You can buy a brush (wide and flat, good for long hair), a round brush (used with a dryer to bend the hair), or a small one for travel. People also keep a hairbrush by the door for a last tidy before going out. It is almost always a thing, a noun. English speakers do not really say “hairbrush your hair”; they say “brush your hair,” even when the tool in their hand is a hairbrush. The word is ordinary, home-and-bathroom English — not fancy, not slang.
