A gunslinger is someone who is very good with a gun, especially in stories about the old American West. In those stories the gunslinger is often an outlaw or a hired fighter who settles trouble by shooting, not a soldier and not a police officer. The word has a film-and-legend feeling: fast hands, a holster, a dusty street. People do stretch it. A newspaper might call a criminal a gunslinger for colour, and some speakers even use it, a little jokingly, for someone who is aggressive and quick in an argument — though actually that is a stretch, and many people would not. It is not a neutral job title. If you just mean a person who owns a gun, this is the wrong word.
組成gun + slinger. A slinger is someone who slings — throws or swings — something. So a gunslinger is a person who ‘slings’ a gun: uses it fast.
