Guinness is a kind of stout: a strong, very dark beer with a thick creamy white head when you pour it into a glass. People think of it as Ireland's national drink. Old advertisements said Guinness is good for you. Doctors would not write that on a bottle today, but the line stuck in people's heads. You drink it slowly; it is heavy and a little bitter. The name is an English spelling of the Irish family name Mac Aonghusa, which means son of Angus. Though actually, in many places the same name also sits on a book of world records — same family name, different product.
