The Guards are a group of regiments — large, named groups of soldiers — in the British army. They began as the soldiers who guarded the king or queen; that is how they got the name.
The Guards are Guards 是 in the British army英國陸軍裡的 a group of regiments一組軍團 — large大型、 named有自己名字 groups of soldiers的士兵團體。 They他們 began as一開始是 who guarded the king or queen守衛國王或女王的 the soldiers那些士兵; that is how they got the name這個名字就是這樣來的。
Today they still do ceremonial work: the red coats and tall black hats outside the palace are Guards. They are also real fighting regiments, not only a show. There are several, with names like the Guards and the Coldstream Guards.
Today今天 they still do他們仍然做 ceremonial work儀式性的工作: outside the palace王宮外面 the red coats and tall black hats那些紅外套和高高的黑帽子 are Guards就是 Guards。 They他們 are also也是 real fighting regiments真正會打仗的軍團, not only a show不只是表演。 There are several有好幾個, with names like名字像是 the Grenadier Guards擲彈兵衛隊 and the Coldstream Guards和冷溪衛隊。
You write it with a capital G because it is a name, not just any people who guard a door. In Britain, for a young man from a rich or old family, becoming an officer in the Guards has long been seen as a smart, respectable job — a bit like joining a very old club that also goes to war.
You write it你寫它時 with a capital G要用大寫的 G, because因為 it is a name它是一個名字, not just不只是 any people who guard a door隨便哪個看門的人。 In Britain在英國, from a rich or old family對出身有錢人家或老家族 for a young man的年輕男子來說, becoming an officer in the Guards成為 Guards 的軍官 has long been seen as長久以來被看成 a smart, respectable job一份體面、受人敬重的工作 — a bit like有點像 joining加入 that also goes to war一個也會上戰場 a very old club的很老的俱樂部。
Though actually, other countries have “guards” too; this English word, with the capital, points to those British ones. Ordinary security guards at a shop are not the Guards.
Though actually不過其實, other countries其他國家 have "guards" too也有自己的「guards」; this English word這個英文字, with the capital配上大寫, points to指的是 those British ones英國的那幾個。 at a shop商店裡 Ordinary security guards一般的警衛 are not the Guards不是 Guards。
