A graphologist is a person who looks at your handwriting and says what kind of person you are — shy or bold, careful or messy, and so on. The study they work in is called graphology. Some companies have asked graphologists to help with hiring. Though actually, many scientists do not believe you can read character from handwriting in this way, so the job sits in a grey place: popular in some offices, not accepted as hard science. Do not mix this person up with a writing teacher, or with the specialist who checks whether two signatures were written by the same hand — that is a different job, about matching marks, not about personality. The word is formal. You will meet it in magazines and in talk about jobs, not in everyday chat.
