A granary is a building, or a strong room, where people keep grain after the harvest — wheat most of all, but also , , and the like. The grain is stored dry, up off the wet ground, so it will last and not rot. In older farm country the granary often stood on mushroom-shaped stones so mice could not climb in. You will meet the word in history and farming, and sometimes as a picture: a place may be called “the granary of” a region if it grows a lot of wheat for everyone else. It is a slightly old, word for a very practical thing; a farmer today might just say grain store. A silo is usually a tall tank, not the same shape. It has nothing to do with granny.
組成Borrowed in the 1500s from Latin grānārium. Built like grain + -ary (“place for”). The same Latin word also gave English garner by another path.
