Governorship is either the position of being governor, or the stretch of time while someone is governor. So you can win the governorship (get the job) or speak of something that happened during her governorship (while she held the job). It names the post and the period, not the person. The person is the governor. In the news this is most often an American state job — the governorship of California, and so on — but the same shape works for other governors too. It is a formal, newspaper kind of word. You would not use it for a school principal or a shop manager; those are not governorships, even if someone “governs” a room in a loose way.
組成governor + -ship. -ship here means the position, or the time you hold it — the same kind of ending as in friendship or leadership, but here it is tied to this one office.
