1. 1

Goalless describes a game in which nobody scored at all. If it finishes 0–0, it was a goalless match, or a goalless draw. The word sits on the whole game, not on one player: a striker who did not score may still have played in a match with three goals. Sports writers and fans use it after a tight, empty game, often with a little disappointment — plenty of running, nothing on the board. Keep it for the net. A life goal or a work goal that you miss is not goalless; that is a different sense of goal, and this adjective does not follow it.
