gm is a short written form of gram or grams — the small unit we use for how heavy something is. There are 1,000 grams in a . You meet it on food packets, in recipes, and in science class: 250 gm of flour, a tablet of 500 gm, and so on. In careful science writing, people often use just g, which means the same thing; gm is the slightly older or more ‘spelled-out’ short form, and you still see it in everyday British writing. It is not a spoken word you stress. You read it as ‘gram’ or ‘grams’. Do not mix it up with GM in capital letters, which is a different short form (a car company, or ‘genetically modified’). This gm is small letters, and it only means the weight.
