A glowstick is a small plastic tube with two chemicals inside, kept apart until you want the light. You bend it until something inside snaps; the chemicals mix, and the stick gives off a coloured glow for a few hours — no battery, no flame, and it does not get hot. People take them to concerts, night runs, camps, and parties; rescue workers sometimes use them when a spark would be dangerous. You will also see the spelling glow stick or glow-stick; it is the same thing. After a while the light and you cannot start it again. Though actually the stick does not 'glow' by electricity: the light is a slow chemical reaction.
