1. 1

A glow-worm is a small insect that makes a soft light from its own body. The name is a little unfair: it is not a worm. In British English it is usually a kind of beetle. The female has no wings, so she looks rather like a small grub sitting in the grass, and she shines with a steady green-yellow light to call a male. People sometimes use glow-worm and as if they were the same, though actually a is the one that flies and often flashes; a glow-worm, in the strict British sense, crawls and glows. You see them on warm nights in hedges and long grass, not in the day.

組成glow + worm. The second piece is from the look of the shining female, who is long and wingless — not from any real worm.
