    Gloucestershire is a county in the west of England, next to Wales. Gloucester is the city; Gloucestershire is the wider land around it. In the south and east of the county lie the , a stretch of gentle hills and old stone villages that English people often call beautiful countryside. Like the city, the name is said with a quiet middle: GLOSS-tə-shə (or GLOSS-tə-sheer). On and maps you may also see the short form Glos.
