Gleneagles is a grand hotel and golf centre in Scotland, known as a place for rich and famous visitors. People go there to play championship golf, stay in the hotel, and be seen. It has also hosted big international meetings and golf events, which is why the name turns up in news as well as in travel magazines. In everyday English it works like a place-name: “they’re playing at Gleneagles,” “a weekend at Gleneagles.” It sounds expensive on purpose; that is part of how people use it.
