Girlish describes something that seems like a girl: a girlish laugh, girlish clothes, a girlish figure, girlish handwriting. It can be about looks, behaviour, or what is thought “suitable for a girl.” Sometimes it is fond — bright, light, young. Sometimes, though actually, it is a quiet put-down, especially about a grown woman (“too girlish”) or about a boy (“girlish” as an insult). What counts as girlish changes with fashion and with who is talking; older and younger people do not always draw the line in the same place. It is ordinary English, a little old-fashioned in some uses, and worth hearing the tone around it.
