Ghanaian is the word for a person from Ghana, and for things that belong to that country — Ghanaian food, Ghanaian music, a Ghanaian passport. Ghana is the West African country between Côte d’Ivoire and , with as its capital; in 1957, when it was still called the Gold Coast, it became the first black African state to leave British rule. You make the English word by adding -ian to Ghana, the same way Canadian comes from Canada. Stress the middle: gah-NAY-un. As a noun it takes a normal plural: one Ghanaian, two Ghanaians.
