A getup is the set of clothes someone is wearing, especially when the clothes look odd, fancy, or like a costume. It is informal, and there is often a smile or a raised in it: “What is that getup?” does not usually mean “What a beautiful outfit?” It can be playful (“I love your getup”) or gently teasing. You will hear it in speech more than in careful writing. British English often get-up with a ; American English often getup as one word. It is not the verb get up (stand, or leave bed). The noun is about clothes, not about rising.
