The movements themselves — or the act of making them — when someone uses their arms and hands a great deal, usually while speaking, from excitement, anger, or a hunt for words. It is the noun that sits beside gesticulate, and it sounds even more formal; you meet it in books, stage directions, and slightly descriptions. One gesticulation can mean a particular flourish; gesticulation can also mean the whole habit of as you talk. Though actually, it does not mean ‘body language’ in general, and it is not a fancy for every nod or handshake — it keeps the flavour of extra, visible hand-and-arm play.
