To move your arms and hands a lot while you speak — usually because you are , angry, or cannot find the word you want. It is a slightly verb; in daily talk many people just say wave your arms or talk with your hands. Gesticulate often suggests big, busy, or slightly comic movement, not a small polite gesture like pointing once at a door. You can gesticulate without speaking, but the usual picture is talking and flapping at the same time. Though actually, some writers use it for any hand movement while talking, which the word; the interesting bit is the extra energy, the ‘I cannot keep my hands still’ feeling.

組成From Latin gesticulātus, from gesticulor ‘to gesticulate,’ from gesticulus (a small mimic gesture), a diminutive of gestus ‘gesture,’ from gerō ‘to bear, carry, perform’; English -ate makes the verb.
