Genomic means “about the genome” — about all the genes found in one kind of living thing, not about one gene on its own. A genomic test looks at that big picture; genomic medicine uses that whole-book view to think about illness. It is a describing word from the lab and from health news. Though actually, people mix genomic and genetic all the time. Genetic is the older, wider everyday word for “about genes” or “inherited in the family.” Genomic stays closer to “about the whole genome.” If you mean “it runs in the family,” genetic is usually the one you want.
