組成From the stem of Ancient Greek γένος (génos, “race, kind”) + English -cide (“killing”). That -cide comes from Latin caedō (“to cut, to kill”) by way of French. In the deep old-language sense it sits near Latin gēns (“tribe, clan”), which also gave English genus.
