A gelding is a male horse whose have been removed — a horse that has been . Most riding horses that people keep for everyday work or sport are geldings, because they are often steadier than stallions (uncut males). Horse people say it the way other people say mare or stallion: it is the name of that kind of horse, not a joke. Older writing sometimes used it for a man; that use is old, and you should not throw it at a person.
