To geld a horse is to remove its . People do this so a male horse will be calmer, easier to ride and handle, and will not father foals. It is an old farm verb, blunt rather than medical: horse people say geld; a hospital would say castrate. You can geld other male animals too, but with horses this is the usual verb. It is not a polite word to use about a person.

組成This sense, the farm verb, is from Old Norse gelda, “to castrate”. (There is a different old word spelled geld that meant a tax or payment, from Old English ġield, in the same family as yield. That is not the horse meaning.)
