    Gatorade is a US brand of sports drink. You drink it after running or playing hard, because it puts back water and salts — the chemicals your body loses in sweat. It was first made for the University of Florida football team, the Gators, at the request of their head coach, Ray Graves, which is how it got the name. In Taiwan the bottles say 佳得樂; that is the name people will recognise on the shelf. Though actually, it is a brand, not a general English word for any sports drink. Other countries grew up with different bottles — here, 寶礦力水得 is often the one students have actually tasted. People sometimes use Gatorade loosely for any bright sports drink, the way they use a famous tissue name for any tissue. On the label, keep the capital G.

組成gator + -ade. Gator from the Florida Gators football team; -ade as in a drink name, the way lemonade is built. Made for that team at the request of coach Ray Graves.
