    A gamete is a special kind of cell that can join with another gamete to start a baby, or the young of another animal or plant. In humans, the sperm cell and the egg cell are the two gametes. Each usually carries half the information for building the new creature; when they join, that full set is together and development can begin. This is a biology classroom word, and a careful one. You will meet it in textbooks, not in ordinary chat. Though actually, people sometimes say “sex cell” for the same idea, and that is easier English; “gamete” is the tidy science name that covers both kinds. It is not the growing baby yet, and it is not a body part you can see.
