Gal is an old-fashioned, casual American English word for a girl or young woman - friendly and informal, common in older movies and country songs, less common with younger speakers today. Separately, 'gal' is also a short way of writing 'gallon', a unit for measuring liquid used mainly in the US, especially in recipes or shopping lists ('3 gal of milk').
