Gadgetry is taken as a heap — all the little machines and clever devices people buy, show off, and then leave in a drawer. A phone, a smart watch, a tiny camera, a kitchen tool with too many buttons: that whole pile is gadgetry. You would not usually call one object gadgetry; the word likes a collection. Though actually, it often carries a small sigh. 'He is obsessed with gadgetry' does not sound like praise. It can mean flashy rather than useful, or simply too much stuff. Shops prefer ; newspapers and grouchy conversations prefer gadgetry. It is a little more formal, and a little less kind.
