A funnyman is a man whose job is to make people laugh — a comedian. You meet this word in newspapers and magazine headlines more than in careful speech. It can feel breezy, even a bit old. Though actually, calling someone a funnyman can also hint at a style: gags, faces, 'the funny one', not always a quiet writer of dry jokes. A man who happens to be funny at dinner is not automatically a funnyman. In ordinary talk, comedian is the word most people use.
