1. 1

Having a young, healthy, clean-looking face — the look of someone who sleeps well, is often outdoors, and has not been worn down by life yet. It is a warm, friendly word, and it is almost always about young people: a fresh-faced student, a fresh-faced group of new soldiers.

Having有著 a young一張年輕、 healthy健康、 clean-looking看起來乾乾淨淨的 face臉 — sleeps well睡得好、 is often outdoors常常在戶外、 and也 has not been worn down by life yet還沒被生活磨過 someone的人 the look的那種樣子。 It is a warm這是個溫暖、 friendly友善的 word字, and而且 it is almost always about young people幾乎都是在說年輕人: a fresh-faced student一個一臉青澀的學生、 a fresh-faced group of new soldiers一群一臉青澀的新兵。

Because of that, it carries a second layer of meaning that dictionaries sometimes miss: fresh-faced people look . When a newspaper calls a new politician fresh-faced, it is partly saying 'he looks young and healthy' and partly saying 'he has not done this before'. Depending on the writer, that can sound hopeful or slightly doubtful.

Because of that因為這樣, it carries它帶著 dictionaries sometimes miss字典有時會漏掉的 a second layer of meaning第二層意思: fresh-faced people fresh-faced 的人 look看起來 INEXPERIENCED「沒有經驗」。 When a newspaper當報紙 calls a new politician fresh-faced說一位新的政治人物 fresh-faced 時, it is partly saying它一半是在說 'he looks young and healthy'「他看起來年輕、健康」, and partly saying一半是在說 'he has not done this before'「他以前沒做過這件事」。 Depending on the writer看寫的人是誰, that那 can sound可能聽起來 hopeful充滿希望, or slightly doubtful也可能有點存疑。

You can say it of an older person too, but then it means 'looking younger and healthier than the years would suggest', and usually comes with something like 'still' — 'still fresh-faced at fifty'.

You can say it你也可以拿它 of an older person too說年紀大一點的人, but但 then那時 it means它的意思是 'looking younger and healthier than the years would suggest'「看起來比歲數該有的樣子更年輕、更健康」, and usually comes with而且通常會配上 something like 'still'像 still 這樣的字 — 'still fresh-faced at fifty'「五十歲了還一臉青春」。

Note it describes the whole impression a face gives, not one feature; you would not say a fresh-faced nose.

Note注意 it describes它描述的是 a face一張臉 gives給人 the whole impression的整體印象, not one feature不是單一個五官; you would not say你不會說 a fresh-faced nose一個「青澀的鼻子」。
