A baby-faced adult has a face that still looks like a child’s: round cheeks, a soft chin, little or no beard shadow, a young look even when the person is grown. It is about the face, not about how the person thinks or acts. You hear it most about men, often with a mix of fondness and teasing — he looks too young for his job, or too young for how hard he plays. Sports writing likes baby-faced for a player who looks gentle and then scores, or tackles, without mercy. It can be kind; it can also sound a little as if you are not taking the person seriously. Neutral to informal. Written with a when it comes before a noun (a baby-faced actor). Though actually, faces change with sleep, weight, and a razor: someone can look baby-faced one year and not the next.
