Fortuitously is the adverb: something happens fortuitously when it happens by chance, and often, in the way people talk now, when that chance turns out well. We met fortuitously means you did not arrange to meet. It is a formal, slightly stiff word; in easy speech people say by chance or luckily. Same warning as fortuitous: it is not a stylish twin of fortunately, even though the two sit near each other and people sometimes swap them. Fortunately means it is a good thing that this happened. Fortuitously means it happened by accident.
