    In tennis, and in games like squash, , and table tennis, a forehand is a way of hitting the ball with the flat, palm side of your hand facing the direction of the ball. If you hold the in your right hand, a forehand is usually a swing on your right side. The opposite stroke is a backhand, with the back of the hand toward the ball. People say a forehand, a forehand shot, or she has a strong forehand. Coaches and match reports use it all the time; it is the normal sports word, not slang. (There is another, older use for the front of a horse, but that is not this meaning.)
