The forecastle is the front part of a ship — the raised bit at the bow — where the ordinary sailors live and sleep. On older sailing ships it was built up a little like a castle, which is how it got the name; officers usually lived further back. You will meet it in sea stories, navy talk, and ship plans, not in city life. Sailors often write it . Though actually, on a modern ship the same name can still mark that forward living space, even when it no longer looks like a castle at all. And it has nothing to do with a weather forecast.
