If you are footloose, nobody has a claim on your time, so you can go where you like and do what you like. The usual picture is someone not married and without children — free to travel, change jobs, stay out late. People also say footloose and fancy-free, an old pair that means that same feeling. It is not the same as wild or badly behaved; it is more not tied down. Though actually, people stretch it. Someone with a family may still say they feel footloose this weekend, meaning only that the diary is empty for two days.
