If something is folding, it has parts that bend so you can make it smaller to carry or store — a folding chair, a folding bike, a folding map, a folding bed. You open it out again when you need it. This is the everyday word on boxes and shop labels. Though actually, folding only tells you the parts bend; (a close cousin) hints that the thing is meant to be put away after. A folding chair can live in a ; a bed is often built to vanish into the wall. Folding can also name the act itself (the folding of a letter), but mostly meet the adjective on furniture and bikes.
