The flora of a place is all the plants that grow there — trees, flowers, grass, , moss: the plant life of that land, that island, or that country. Nature books and science class use this word; in ordinary talk people more often just say plants. You will often hear it beside fauna, which is all the animals. The name comes from Latin Flōra, the Roman goddess of flowers. Though actually, doctors also talk about gut flora or skin flora, meaning the tiny living things that live in or on a body. Many of those are not plants at all, so the tidy “plants of a place” answer is tidier than the full modern use. The first school meaning, though, is still the plants of a land.
