If a dress, a skirt, or a pair of curtains is floor-length, it hangs so far down that it reaches the floor, or almost does. People use this word for clothes and curtains, not for a table or a lamp that simply stands on the floor. A floor-length gown is the long kind you see at a wedding or a formal party; some even have extra cloth that trails behind. Though actually, shop labels are a bit looser than the tidy picture — a dress can be called floor-length when it only just kisses the ground, or when it would if you stood up straight. The word is everyday in clothes shops, not fancy. It is almost always written with a : floor-length.
「floor-length」用來形容衣服或窗簾垂得很長，長到碰到地板，或幾乎碰到。例如「floor-length gown」就是垂到地板的長禮服。這個字主要用在衣服和窗簾，不會拿來形容一張桌子或一盞放在地上的燈。
店家標籤的用法比較寬鬆，一件洋裝只要剛好貼著地面，甚至站直時才會碰到地，也可能被標成 floor-length。這是服飾店裡很日常的字，不是什麼華麗的詞。寫的時候中間幾乎都要加連字號。
