Fleshpots are the parts of a city people go to for rich, bodily pleasure — drinking, night-life, and especially sex. It is almost always plural, and it names a whole area, not one bar. The word is old, a little fancy, and used with a smile; nobody puts it on a street sign. A writer might say “the fleshpots of the port” and expect you to hear both luxury and naughtiness. Though actually, the first fleshpots were not about sex at all. In the Bible story, the people who had left Egypt missed the pots of meat they used to eat there — “flesh” here is meat. Later English took that picture of easy, plentiful living and pointed it at districts of pleasure. Use it in stories and newspapers, not in a serious travel plan, and not about a normal food street. The joke only works when money, night, and bodies are in the mix.
