When food is flavourful, it has a lot of taste, and that taste is pleasant — not bland, not watery, not only salty or only sweet. A flavourful stew has been cooked so the meat, herbs, and vegetables come through. You notice it. You want another spoonful. This is the British spelling; American writing uses flavorful. It is a little more at home on a menu or in food writing than in quick kitchen talk, where people often say tasty or “full of flavour.” It does not mean spicy, and it does not mean the cook added a lot of sugar. Strong and pleasant is the point. Though actually, writers sometimes use it for other things we “taste” in a loose way — a flavourful story, a flavourful style — but food is still the word’s real home. The noun inside it is flavour: this adjective says the food is full of that.
