When a hotel, restaurant, or similar place is five-star, it has been judged to be of the highest standard on a scale that runs from one star to five. One star is simple; five stars means top comfort, service, and usually price. People stretch it a lot: five-star service, a five-star review, a five-star experience — even when no official inspector was involved. They just mean the very best. Though actually the US army also has a five-star general, the highest rank, with five stars on the shoulder. Same counting idea, different world.
