A firehouse is the building where wait with their truck, ready to go when a fire starts. In American English this is a normal everyday word, especially for a small station in a small town — the kind of place with one engine and a bell. In British English people almost always say fire station instead, and that is also the safer word in class. Though actually the two names point at the same kind of building; firehouse just feels more American and a little more , as if the crew live there. Do not picture a house that is burning. The fire is what they fight, not what the building is.
組成fire + house. Today's meaning is the firefighters' building. Though actually the oldest English word of this shape meant a room with a fire in it, like a kitchen; the station meaning is the same two pieces pointing at a different kind of house.
