Finery is the beautiful, often expensive clothes and jewellery people put on for a special day — a wedding, a festival, a night they want to look grand. It is a “stuff” word, not a counting word: you dress in your finery, you do not usually say “a finery.” Though actually, younger people almost never use this in ordinary talk. It sounds a little old, or like a story, and when they do say it there is often a smile — as if the clothes are a bit too much. It is not a general word for nice things, and it has nothing to do with a parking fine, or with “finer” meaning “more fine.”
