The finale is the last part of a piece of music, a concert, a show, a film, a sports season, or another big event — the part that is built to feel like an ending, often bigger and louder than what came before. In music it may be a named last movement. On television people talk about a season finale or a series finale. People stretch it, too: the finale of a long dinner, the finale of a career. It is not the same as a final in sport or school (the last match, the last exam), though the two sit near each other in the mind. Finale points at a designed last moment, the one the makers saved for the end.
