    A filename is the name you give one computer file so you and the machine can find it again. It is usually a short label, often with an ending after a dot, like letter.txt or photo.jpg. That ending (the extension) tells the computer what kind of file it is. Different systems have different rules: some dislike spaces or special marks in a filename; some do not mind. People also write file name as two words; it means the same thing. The filename is not the whole path (the long string of folders that leads to the file). It is only what that one file is called in its folder.
