A filament is a very thin thread, fibre, or wire. The old glass light bulbs had a filament inside: a hair-thin wire that glowed when electricity ran through it. In science, a filament can be any thread-like piece — in a flower, in a cell, in a fungus. People who print in 3D also call the long plastic string they feed into the machine a filament. The word is a bit technical. In everyday talk you might just say thread, wire, or a hair-thin piece. It always keeps the idea “long, thin, and like a thread.”

組成Borrowed from Medieval Latin filamentum, from a Late Latin verb “to spin / draw out in a long line,” from Latin filum, “thread.” So the word is “a thing like a thread.”
