    Fijian is not the name of the country. The country is Fiji — two main islands and hundreds of smaller ones in the southwest Pacific, capital , about 897,000 people in a 2014 count. Fijian is the word we use for “of that country,” “a person from there,” or “the main local language.” So: Fijian food, a Fijian student, She speaks Fijian. Like many place-words, it is the place-name plus -an. Use a capital F. If a list ever treats Fijian as if it were the country itself, that is a mix-up with Fiji. The two words travel together, but they do different jobs.
