組成From Middle English feaute, from Anglo-Norman, from Latin fidēlitās (“faithfulness”; in Medieval Latin also “homage, fealty”), from fidēlis (“faithful”) + -tās. The modern shape was pulled toward the Latin; without that learned push you might have had something like *feauty. Same Latin word as fidelity — a doublet. Also equal to obsolete feal + -ty.
