Something family-friendly is made so that parents and young children can enjoy it together without worry. A family-friendly film has little violence, little strong language, and a story children can follow. A family-friendly restaurant has high chairs, a children’s menu, and is not too loud or too late. Hotels, parks, apps, and even office policies wear this label to say “you can bring the kids.” It is as much a selling word as a describing word — posters use it because it sounds safe and warm. It does not usually mean the place is only for families, and it does not mean the family itself is friendly. It means families with young children will not feel out of place. Though actually, what counts as family-friendly shifts with the audience: a film that feels fine at age eight may not feel fine at age four, and stretch the phrase toward anything that is not obviously adult.
family-friendly 指某樣東西是設計來讓父母和小朋友可以放心一起享受的。例如「a family-friendly restaurant」會有兒童椅、兒童菜單，環境不會太吵或太晚；電影則是暴力和粗話少，故事小孩看得懂。飯店、公園、應用程式，甚至公司的制度，也會貼上這個標籤，表示歡迎帶小孩來。
它也是一個宣傳用語，聽起來安全又溫暖，所以海報常用。它通常不是指只限家庭，也不是指家人很友善，而是說帶小孩的家庭不會覺得格格不入。什麼算親子友善，要看觀眾是誰：八歲看起來沒問題的電影，四歲可能就不合適。
