A fact-finding trip — or visit, or mission — is an official journey to learn what is really happening, so that a company, a government, or a group can decide later. People go, look, ask questions, and bring the facts home. The word is used most often as a describing word before a noun: a fact-finding mission, a fact-finding visit. Standing alone, a fact-finding is less common in everyday talk. It sounds formal and public: news, government, . It is organised information-gathering, not detective work in a crime story. On that trip you are not meant to campaign or to fix things; the job is to find out.
「fact-finding」指的是官方的實地調查行程：有人去現場看、問問題、把事實帶回來，好讓公司、政府或團體之後能做決定。它最常當形容詞，放在名詞前面，例如 「a fact-finding mission」（實情調查團）、「a fact-finding visit」（實地考察）。單獨當名詞用的情況就比較少。
它的語氣正式、公開，多見於新聞、政府和非政府組織的報導。它是有組織地蒐集資訊，不是偵探辦案。這類行程的任務是查清楚，不是去宣傳或解決問題。
