    An extranet is a company's private computer network that is opened, in a controlled way, to some people outside the company — often customers or partners. The internet is open to everyone. An intranet is only for people inside the company. An extranet sits between those two: it uses internet technology, but only some outsiders can get in, and they only see some of the company's private information that is not on the public website. It is an IT and business word. Ordinary people rarely say it. Though actually, many of the things once called extranets now just get called a client portal or a partner site.
