Expansionism is when a country or a group tries to take more land or more power. Newspapers use it with a cold or angry tone — it is not a compliment. The first and strongest use is about countries and empires; people also stretch it to companies that keep swallowing smaller ones. A person who backs that policy is an expansionist. Though actually, the country doing the expanding almost never calls it expansionism. They call it security, or , or opportunity. The - is other people's word for it, and it usually shows .
